Why vision boards are the best thing since sliced bread

Do you know what you even want?  I believe you do and at times you don’t as your life and circumstances change so many times throughout your lifetime.  We put so much stress on ourselves at every level in middle school kids are applying for high school, in high school you work hard for college, in college you work hard in your career, and in your career you work hard to provide and eventually retire.  Along the way there are so many choices and paths, how many college students change majors a few times or start out in a career that does not coincide with your major, quite a few.  This paragraph along can cause stress, all of the things to think of!

While in my previous posts I have written about goal setting and getting things done, they are important but what does your vision of your future look like?  I love vision boards- a cork board, virtual, any of them.  A vision board is a tool to help provide clarity and focus on a particular life goal.  The board is quite literally a display of images that display whatever you want to be, do, or have in your life, there are so many ways, click here to see samples (a simple search).  There are a few versions of online boards or you can just make one for your wall with just some poster board (or canvas), glue, scissors, magazine, and markers.  Have fun with it.

I ask again, what do you want?

  • to get married?
  • to have children?
  • to buy a home?
  • to choose or change a career?
  • get in shape?
  • train for something?

Making decisions like this require research and what better way than to visualize your research and find what really inspires you, here are a few starter questions to get you going:

  • what do you want to contribute?
  • what are you good at?
  • imagine your retirement party, what do you want people to say about you?
  • what do you want to be known for?
  • who are your role models?
  • what makes you truly happy?
  • words to describe your future self?

I read once and it stuck with me that vision boards keep your attention on your intentions and wow, I loved that phrase, there is no better description.  Along with this vision boards reinforce your daily affirmations and they also allow you to identify your vision and give it clarity.

Now, go make one and have fun!  Would love to see your work and comments on your visions below…

visualize what you want

  2. I had a vision board for years. Made it at a vision board party which was a lot of fun. It encompassed several areas of my life and continued to inspire me until I finally let it go when I moved. It was really, really hard to throw it away.

  3. I have a vision board in my office. Eight months after putting it up, I won a trip to Milan, Italy. A couple of weeks later, I won a trip to New York City. I think it helped me to set my intention about traveling out into the Universe, and helped me to focus. I am a huge believer in the Law of Attraction!
